Specializing in

  • Leaving one’s country of origin and home culture is stressful. Then comes the process of adapting to one’s new environment. With so many things shifting one can start to feel overwhelmed and lost. Stress can culminate and start to wear one down.

By exploring the experience of moving we can start to unpack some of these experiences. Together we can grieve the loss associated with moving but also strive to embrace the potential of your new home.

  • Arguments within a relationship can erupt over the smallest of details; Who did the laundry last, why didn’t you buy milk when you were at the store last? Both parties get entrenched in their opinions with both thinking they are right. These arguments can get out of control leaving both people feeling hurt and mis-understood. However, these arguments are seldom just about laundry or grocery shopping.

Instead, there is an emotional hurt that exists beneath them. When we work together focus will be spent on exploring the emotions and feelings related to your relationship. Once the pain is discovered and expressed to one’s partner in an accessible manner relief can be found and a supportive relationship can be fostered.

Together we will slow down and focus on improving the communication and support in your relationship.

  • Experiences of anxiety can start to feel debilitating and overwhelming. One can mull life circumstances or a recent conversation over and over in one’s head. Anxiety can also creep into the body and be felt somatically.

The depressive mood is also debilitating. Things that used to offer one joy or pleasure seem to lose their spark. It can feel hard to continue.

Together we can explore the parts of you that are feeling anxious or depressed. Step by step internal awareness as to the causes of anxiety or depression can be discovered. An action plan to deal with your experiences will also be made.

  • Losing someone close is one of the most painful experiences one can go through. The difficulty of this experience can be multiplied when there isn’t space to grieve properly. Together we can take the time to process loss. By giving difficult emotions such as sadness or even anger appropriate space one’s bundle of emotions can start to become more clear.

This also applies to the loss of an idea, dream or past way of being. For example feelings of loss can apply to unfilled career ambition or an inability to have children. Together we will create an environment that allows for these experiences to be processed.

  • Some of us have endured unimaginable experiences. These experiences, whether in our childhood or as an adult, have long-lasting effects. Trauma can be felt both psychologically and in the body.

Together we will use a scientifically supported and safe approach to working through trauma. Creating and visualizing safe spaces, and using education will form the cornerstone of this work. Afterwards, with you leading, the traumatic experience can be unpacked.

The main focus will be on developing a deeper level of awareness as to one’s triggers and how to manage them.

  • Life’s transitions are all about change and change can feel intimidating. In some cases, a life transition is forced upon us and in others, we have to make a decision. Both are stressful.

Further challenges can stem from the fact that comfort can be found in routine. This is true even if the current routine is harmful. Applying for a new job position, quitting a current job or moving on from a relationship that is not working anymore are some examples of life transitions that can feel really difficult to resolve.

Together we will create the space for you to share all that is on your mind. We can slow down and follow the most impactful thread, creating a deeper level of meaning as we go.

We all have a different relationship with change based on our past experiences and worldview. Your relationship will be respected and listened to.

  • Young people should be respected. Their experiences and life situations are as important and diverse as adults. Giving space for the range of emotions and experiences from the view of the young person is paramount.

When working together time will be taken to understand the young person’s worldview. Then emotions around troubling spots in their life will be welcomed into the therapy room. Remember no emotion is wrong or bad it’s just what we do with them that can be troublesome.

Importantly the young person will set the pace and determine what they would like to share and when.

  • A happy and balanced person makes a strong athlete. When adapting counselling psychology to sport it is always important to start with this motto.

Once one’s life is balanced specific elements of sports performance can be worked on. This takes the form of working through the mental barriers to reaching one’s full potential. An example includes nerves that make reaching the ‘flow’ state difficult.

In order to support you, a structured technique is used that focuses on understanding your thoughts, feelings and behaviours in relation to the situation you are in when trouble arises. Together we can work through these situations and develop pyschological techniques to mitigate their impact.
